Karen Rojas Photography has been quite a
growing sensation over the last 8 years. Her photography is nothing short of
amazing and beautiful. She continues to capture people’s beautiful memories one
picture at a time. However, we decided to take a trip down memory lane and see
how it all started. From her favorite parts to the hardest parts, Karen is a
down to earth photographer who has an eye for perfection.
How did you get into photography?
K.R: It all started
when I had my daughter back in 2007. Being my first born, I wanted to capture
every moment. I love with everything about her and I wanted look back on these
priceless memories.
Why did you choose this career path?
K.R: I choose
photography because I love everything about it. I enjoy looking back at a image
and remembering the moments behind it. When people say a picture is worth a
thousand words, it definitely is. I can look back on a session and think about
everything we had to do to capture this image. The poses, the laughs, the
struggles, it’s so much more than just a photograph. The best part about this
career path is that photography gives me a platform to be creative. I have an
idea in my head about a photoshoot and next thing you know it’s captured in an
image.
What is the hardest part about your job?
K.R: The hardest part
for me was getting started. I mostly took pictures for my family; however they
keep encouraging me to start up my own business. There are so many great
photographers out there, and I was just starting out so it was hard to build my
cliental. It was about pushing myself to get out there, and get noticed. It’s
hard because most photographers compete and they look at you as competition.
Nonetheless, I always say I am here to create not compete.
What makes your photography special to you?
K.R: I truly have to
say my clients. The fact that I’m able to capture such beautiful memories for
people is amazing. I am thankful they have allowed me to be a part of their
day. Whether it’s newborn shoots, family, weddings, or couples there is
something special behind every image. To know that I was a part of that moment,
I was able to capture that for them, is a reward in itself. I have had couples
turn into engagements, weddings, and families. I am able to watch clients grow
and see their happiness expand. I have to say that is what makes my photography
special. I think when you are having fun and you have your clients trust the
outcome is amazing.
Is there a person you look up to? Who?
K.R: I don’t really have
a person I look to, however I do like seeing other photographers and their
work. There are some photographers that help with location spots, ideas, and
other tips. Two photographers that I look up to for inspiration are Anamaria
Brandt Photography and Daniel Cruz. Those
photographers are amazing. It’s when you have other people in the same career
field that want to help you.
Is there something you could change about your photography? Why?
K.R: Actually, No. I
am happy with my style, my clients, and my business. Every day is a live and
learn process. I continue to strive to be the best I can be. I will continue to
grow, but there is nothing where I could look back on and be like, “Oh, I wish
I would have done this differently.” Each step has brought me to where I am
today.
Where do you see yourself
in 10 years?
K.R: In ten years, I
see myself owning my own studio. Right now, I don’t have an actual business
location unless you consider my house, but hopefully down the line that will
change.
Is there any advice you could give to fellow/future
photographers?
K.R: Draw inspiration
from other photographers, but never worship them. You are your own style, your
own unique touch. Be different. That’s what I love about photography. You can
be yourself.
What is a priceless moment you have captured during a
photoshoot?
K.R: I had the opportunity to capture parents
seeing their baby take their first reals steps. It was such an adorable moment.
Is there any embarrassing moments during a photoshoot you want
to share?
K.R: One time after I
finished a session with one of my clients, we both got attacked by wasps.
OUCH!! Did it hurt! That wasn’t fun at all.
Karen’s style is
something for everyone to enjoy. She has continued to advance her career, and
share her work through the power of social media.
Facebook, Instagram, and
Pinterest have been her main outlets. Her Pinterest allows you to get helpful hints and how-tos
to make photoshoots a lot easier, even inspiration if you are planning to book
a shoot. “Capturing your heart through an Image” is something that she stands
by with every picture she has captured.
Karen has come a long way, but since day one she continues to satisfy
her clients one picture at a time.

Five things I love about
Photography
“Choose a job you love, and you will
never work a day in your life” –Confucius. It’s not easy to explain something you
love. Whether is a person, a job, or an object sometimes there are no right
words to say how feel. However, we still try. Karen attempted to sum up five
things she loves most about photography.
#1. It has changed the way I view the world and be able
to see beauty in every thing.
K.R
: Being a photographer has allowed me to admire everyone’s and everything’s
beauty. There is no such thing as a ugly because even the darkest days have
some of the brightest moments. You just have to look at differently. Sometimes
it you have to turn your head upside down or from a different perspective to
find the perfect moment. Everyone is different, so I always keep an open mind
and continue to expand my horizon.
#2. I am able to capture
memories for my own family as well as others.
K.R: It started off with just
capturing family moments; then expanded into my own business. I have been able
to be creative with clients and bring the same concepts to my family photos or
vice versa. It has allowed me to better myself as a photographer, and be able
to grow. Practice makes perfect, so I am glad to have such a photogenic family.
LOL.
#3. I can create art.
K.R: I have to opportunity to create
art. I keep saying, “I am here to create not compete” and that is what I continue
to do. Art can be interpreted in different ways every photographer is the same.
That’s why there is no competition, I just want to create and capture people’s
moments. I love what I do, because the creativity is endless.
#4. You can express yourself.
K.R: I love when clients come to me
with an idea, and I can make it come to life. I think it’s better to have the
client express their ideas and incorporate into their shoot than me direct the
shoot the whole time. It’s their personal touch that makes the photoshoot even
more special because it’s what they wanted. It allows clients to be themselves
and add their personality into the photo. I think it’s the best feeling when
you make a client happy, and they say it’s just how they wanted it.
#5. It helps me.
K.R: Some people find reading a book
relaxing, that’s how I feel when I am editing pictures. I find it relaxing yet
exciting. You get this image that you
are able to transform and enhance the beauty in it. The ending is the best part
because I am able to see my creativity transform. It’s amazing to see what I
can do and how I make people happy. It makes me proud of what I do.
Karen’s
love for photography is endless, but these were the few she mentioned. It’s a great
gift to be able to capture people’s moments. She has gained a better life. Not
only being a part of her growing family, but as well as others, is definitely a
priceless gift.
